Adoption Makes Me Cry

I cried during an interview… yet again.

I wasn’t gushing, but there was definitely extra moisture than I wanted. And all because we were talking about adoption.

My interview subject was a birth mother named Jill who offered her daughter through adoption to a magnificent couple who couldn’t have children of their own. You’d think she’d be talking about how hard the decision was or how many challenges she faced, but she was all joy and confidence.

“This is what the Lord taught me, that I was carrying this baby for them. I get to bless someone else with the opportunity to be parents.”

Ok, so this subject is particularly important to me because I’ve felt called to adopt a child since I was teenager. I actually fell in love with my husband over a text message he sent about how he wants to adopt because it is such a clear picture of the gospel. It’s how I knew he was The One.

Before we even got to the interview we watched Jill meet her daughter for the first time since she was born. Her heart must have been going crazy! She hasn’t seen her daughter since the delivery room.

Thankfully she shed one sweet tear as she held 9 month-old Olivia and hugged the new parents. Always glad to not be the only one who cried.

I just couldn’t stop thinking about this woman who just knew her daughter was with the right family. That she had created something beautiful. That she was part of something beautiful.

Hopefully one day I’ll have a birth mother like Jill. Someone who will bless my family in the greatest way. Just thinking about the possibility made me cry.

The cry baby,
