Faith vs. Fear22 Jul 2016, Posted by Blog in
How can we operate out of faith, not fear, in the midst of our chaotic world?
On June 9th, I boarded a nine-hour overnight flight to Paris, France at 12 weeks pregnant. In the morning I’d be meeting up with my co-worker, Katy, and the Encompass hosts in the Paris airport to get started on our project.
As I sat on the plane thinking of Paris, I thought of the things I might see, the smells I might experience and the people I might meet. I thought of couples kissing in front of the Eiffel tower, friends at café’s on the street side, and beautiful historic buildings being gawked at by hoards of tourists.
Inside, I was feeling adventurous, excited and grateful.
But I was also feeling a bit nervous about what we would encounter.
Queue worrisome thoughts… would we be safe? Would I find food I liked? Would I be able to provide beautiful images to this ministry? Would we get time for naps?
Not to mention thinking about all of the recent tragedies, it almost overwhelmed me.
Do you ever let fear reign in your life? I was certainly tempted to do so in this moment. It’s a human reaction to let our worrisome thoughts take over.
But that is not what the Lord calls us to; it’s not how we are taught to make decisions. Proverbs says “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”
Thankfully, the Lord allowed us to have a safe trip and an amazing time serving a ministry in the French countryside (yes, it was gorgeous!)
We got to spend our time interacting and getting to know some amazing French people, film and photograph an 800 year old castle, and help communicate how this building and the people there, are being used as an outlet by God to reach France for his kingdom.
And by the way, the food was amazing and we even had time for a few naps!
For me, I want to continue to walk by faith, and not let fear take hold of the good things.
