I was given advice… “Now that you’re a father, watch out for dad bod.”
There are plenty of blogs on eating healthy/diets, but don’t worry… this isn’t one.
Can I just say that it’s flat out expensive to eat healthy?
For my family, we recently have been eating cheap and fast (frozen pizza). With twin infants and a tired mom and dad, we have gone from eating the healthiest of meals and spending time meal prepping, to settling for pizza.
I realize that’s its not sustainable, especially when I’m trying to fight dad bod like Rocky Balboa.
My point is that if you don’t have the resources, life will keep giving you tacos, hamburgers, and whatever is cheap and tastes good. And if this is true for me and my family I can only imagine what lives are like for the poorest of the poor in America.
Recently I went to Jackson, Mississippi, where I was filming with Extra Table. I learned that Jackson, Mississippi one of the hungriest and most obese people in the U.S.
Also in Mississippi, there are places with food deserts. One lady explained to me that in her whole county, there isn’t a single grocery store.
How are you supposed to prepare a healthy meal when there isn’t even a grocery store to shop at? Fast food restaurants and gas stations would be the only place to go.
That’s where Extra Table comes in.
Extra Table delivers brand new healthy and nutritious food to food pantries and soup kitchens at below wholesale prices each month. They can buy in bulk from Sysco directly.
They purchase healthy food that pantries need, such as lean protein and no sugar/sodium fruits and vegetables, which give families the opportunity to have access to healthy meals.
They are solving hunger one family at a time.
I guess I don’t have too much to complain about since there are literally 5+ grocery stores within 5 miles of my house…
Maybe tonight will be a grilled chicken and veggies night. Rocky would be proud!
