Meet Kendal. Kendal’s story is a part of our Neighbor series. These are the stories of those we chance to meet, and through these stories we hope that viewers will be inspired to turn more strangers into friends and that we all will be changed for the better.

“Je, ninaweza kuchukua picha yako?” is Swahili for “Can I take your picture?”

While we were recently in Tanzania, we were interviewing Bishop El Omindo (first photo), and his neighbor Everest (second photo) watched us the entire time—curious about who we were and what we were doing. After a brief conversation, we asked him: “Je, ninaweza kuchukua picha yako?” He eagerly responded, “Ndiyo”, which means “yes!”

We’re always amazed by the kindness of everyone that we meet on our travels. We do not take for granted the opportunity to play a small part in the stories of others!

While working on a project for Cakeable, our team was honored to meet Kendal. She and her family graciously welcomed us into their lives and shared their story.

Kendal has never met a stranger. To her, everyone is a Neighbor--those she chances to meet. We hope to learn from Kendal and her spirit by which she invites everyone in with love, kindness and joy.

Having a child with a disability in Kenya is an enormous emotional, physical, and financial burden for children and their families. The cost of therapy and equipment is simply unaffordable for many families, leaving many children underserved. They sometimes live in isolation and family members often are unable to work because they choose to stay home with their children.

In July of 2016, the Special Needs Clinic (SNC) at Tenwek Hospital ofﬁcially began its ministry for children with disabilities. Children from birth to age 18 can now receive proper identiﬁcation, assessment, and management of various disabilities at the SNC.

The SNC was the dream of Solomon Rop, a physical therapist at Tenwek. Join us as we follow Solomon for an ordinary Friday afternoon delivering wheelchairs.

The NICU combines advanced technology and trained health care professionals to provide specialized care for their tiniest patients.
